Colors of Saudi Tourism Films Contest 2018 allows amateurs and professional tourism filmmakers to shine as well as offering an opportunity to present Saudi Arabia in an inspirational and creative way.

Contest Objectives:
  • Encouraging and honoring the innovators of filming and producing films on tourism and our national heritage.
  • Contributing in the development and production of tourism films and creating competition between amateurs and professional film producers and videographers.
  • Supporting in   propagation special films about national tourism.
  • Valuing the efforts of public and private sector partners by  documenting the tourism and heritage  attractions of the Kingdom through filming.
  • Stimulating the tourism companies and entities  to produce more  films to promote the Saudi tourism products and services.

Contest Categories

This category is for individual filmmakers. The films focus mainly on presenting a story or a drama scene connected directly to tourism. such as heritage, archeological, cultural or a natural sites, it can highlight the importance and value of some tourism sites, or about protecting the tourism elements to raise awareness.
Technical requirements:
  • The film must contain an idea and a story involving characters who perform an acting scene. The film has to be purposeful and connected to tourism.
  • Religious rituals, Hajj and Umrah rituals are not included as they are not considered tourist activities in any way.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes.

This category includes films, which display, document, and promote culture and national heritage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, such as:

  • Antiquities from archeological sites, urban heritage, historical mosques, castles, forts, rock carvings and dams.
  • Mobile antiquities from clay, stone, glass and metal utensils, jewelry and coins, manuscripts, tools and equipment, and museum collections.
  • Traditional social life and how it is expressed in popular heritage, folklore, habits, food, clothes, traditions and arts, handicrafts, traditional professions, games, and heritage festivals.
  • Various cultural activities that express the history and civilization of Saudi Arabia's people
  • The film must contain one or more of the above mentioned themes.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes.

This category includes films that express, document, and promote nature in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, such as:

  • Deserts including valleys, mountains, sand dunes, stones, rocks, trees, wildlife, and aspects of life.
  • Mountainous areas and what they include from valleys and beautiful natural sites, and aspects of life there.
  • The sea including its islands, beaches, sea creatures, and trees above and below the Red Sea or the Arab Gulf, as well as aspects of life there.
  • Agricultural and rural areas with their different elements such as fields, animals, and agricultural activities including life within these areas.
  • The film must contain one or more of the above mentioned themes.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes.
This category Including films, which highlight, document, and promote a particular region or city in the Kingdom. The film shall highlight the region's heritage, cultural and natural elements, its urban renaissance, and the tourism attractions. This category requires:
  • The film must contain a story and a clear idea about one specific region or city. Footage of more than one region is not accepted.
  • Religious rituals, Hajj and Umrah rituals are not included as these are not considered tourist activities.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than 3 minutes.

It includes films which manifestation, documenting, and promoting all aspects of Saudi Arabia modern's life, such as:

    • Government entities, business facilities, industrial and medical complexes, exhibition and convention centers and the activities involved. • Major infrastructure projects such as roads, underground railways, airports, trains, ports, dams, and desalination projects. • Educational facilities, universities, technology companies, and the activities involved. • Aspects of modern life for Saudi citizens in their homes, at work, as well social events. • Sport and recreational bases and activities such as clubs, stadiums, gyms, and amusement parks.The film must contain one or more of the above mentioned themes. • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes.
  • City development and from infrastructure to urban renaissance, along with roads, markets, restaurants, gardens, museums and daily life.
  • Government entities, business facilities, industrial and medical complexes, exhibition and convention centers and the activities involved.
  • Major infrastructure projects such as roads, underground railways, airports, trains, ports, dams, and desalination projects.
  • Educational facilities, universities, technology companies, and the activities involved.
  • Aspects of modern life for Saudi citizens in their homes, at work, as well social events
  • Sport and recreational bases and activities such as clubs, stadiums, gyms, and amusement parks.The film must contain one or more of the above mentioned themes.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes.
This category directed to the films produced by companies and facilities for promoting tourism inside the Kingdom, including films that promote tourist services and products. It includes films produced by hotels, resorts, tour organizers, travel agencies, transportation companies, event organizers, car rental agencies, and those in charge of airline, amusement parks, markets, exhibitions and conventions. It requires the following:
  • The film must focus on the tourism industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or highlighting the services provided for tourists inside the Kingdom.
  • The film must have a worthy scenario and idea that contributes in producing a purposeful film connected to domestic tourism.
  • The film shall be no less than 30 seconds and no longer than two minutes.
For the first time in the Colors of Saudi Tourism Films Contest, a prize will be dedicated to the film that wins people's votes. The winner will be decided after:
  • A jury nominates the qualifying films, in accordance with the contest terms and conditions.
  • Voting for nominated films can be done through the Colors of Saudi Arabia website.
  • Votes can only be cast for one film from all categories except the Business Sector Films Category .


Contest Prizes:
The competition prize total is 550,000 SAR, distributed as follows:
  • First Category: Short Story Films
    The prize for the best film in this category is 100,000 SAR.
  • Second Category: Cultural and Heritage Films
    The prize for the best film in this category is 100,000 SAR.
  • Third Category: Nature Films
    The prize for the best film in this category is 100,000 SAR.
  • Fourth Category: Saudi Arabia Today Films
    The prize for the best film in this category is 100,000 SAR.
  • Fifth Category: Tourist Destination Films
    The prize for the best film in this category is 100,000 SAR.
  • Sixth Category: People's Choice
    The best winning film  prize is 50,000 SAR.
  • Seventh Category: Business Sector Films
    Three winners  will receive an honorary shield.  

 Technical Standards :
  • The film must be based on a good scenario and idea that contributes in producing a purposeful film.
  • The shooting must take place in Saudi Arabia.
  • Animation films, time lapse, or a film montage of other movies will  not be accepted.
  • A strict adherence to the running time as stated in the corresponding category rules.
  • The film must be in one of the following formats: MP4 or MOV or WMV.
  • The size of the presented copy must be no less than 500 MB, and the resolution no less than 720p HD.
  • The film producer/s must be displayed only at the end.

How to apply?
  • Apply through the form found on the competition website. In the case of missing or inaccurate information, the applicant may be discarded without notification. Apply here
  • The film entry must be uploaded on YouTube with the privacy choice (Unlisted) and the link must be included in the application form, in addition to sending an e-mail to confirm participation with the film's link to: films@colors.sa
  • You can only enter one film. In case of applying with more than one film, only the first one will be accepted.
  • The deadline for receiving applications is 11/02/1440 AH corresponding to 20/10/2018 at 11:59 pm. Any application submitted after that time will not be considered. Note that KSA timing is (GMT +3) and it is applicable in all dates and times in the contest.

Judging:
  • Participating films will be subject to the assessment of a specialized jury made up of experts in the filmmaking industry. The jury will focus on the following elements which will be fundamental in the assessment process:
  • Its accordance with the mentioned terms and contest criteria.
  • The film includes an idea and a scenario.
  • Direction.
  • Filming and lighting.
  • Audio and audio effects and how they relate to the shots.
